This tall, grounded cylinder has a rugged character and shows a vivid range of tones — from golden yellow to red-brown into deep black. The blackened area is the result of the oak’s tannins reacting with a piece of metal once embedded in the tree.

Cracks run through the surface; one is marked by a dovetail joint — not for repair, but as a deliberate visual gesture.

The exterior is brushed to a raw texture, the interior ebonised black, offering a bold counterpoint to the vivid grain.

Smoked oak. Walnut oil and beeswax.
